L.AS Press Release: ZenDog Films
Life. And Scoreboards has merged with ZenDog Digital, Inc. to become the writing branch of the production company.
Hey there, Dedicated Readers of Life. And Scoreboards. How have you been? We hope you are well. Happy Friday.
It is fitting to make the following announcement on July 4th, a day of celebration. As the fireworks light up the sky, Life. And Scoreboards can announce a merger with ZenDog Digital, Inc., and a joint venture with ZenDog Films. Life. And Scoreboards expands to become the writing branch of the ZenDogverse. We’ve just finished moving into our new offices.
While waiting for the new furniture to arrive, we've been in the field with ZenDog making films. The films are mostly experimental, to test the functionality and features of our cameras and editing equipment. The result is more entertainment for your consideration. If you don't feel like reading, now you can watch our films as they come out of the ZenDog production studios.
As ZenDog Films arrives on the scene, you'll find three sections.
The Arvada Weather Report with Vida
Vida Cornwallis is doing double-duty as one of our political writers, and now, as the star of her own Arvada Weather Report series.
These are short films (each a different editing assignment) designed to experiment with our filmmaking equipment and editing software.
To date, footage has been shot with a GoPro HERO 2, a GoPro HERO 13 Black, and a Black Magic 4K. These weather report films offer us a chance to test the horizon-leveling features of the GoPro, various frame rates, different lenses, and so on.
And if you’re interested in the weather in Arvada, well that’s the cherry on top.
ZenDog Films
These are short films apart from the Arvada Weather Report. And you never know what's coming next.
JD's Swingin' Meat Gallery
The Meat Gallery was a TV show produced from 1988 to 1993. Shooting all around the Greater Denver Metro Area and editing in our secret production studios, a total of four, rare and precious 30-minute episodes of JDSMG were produced.
“JD’s Swingin’ Meat Gallery” aired locally on the now-defunct KUBD-TV Channel 59 on Friday nights at 1:30 AM throughout the summer of 1992. Our research department asked AI about the show, and this is what it returned:
Now that’s a deep cut — and it turns out the show has a bit of cult flair.
🎭 "JD’s Swingin’ Meat Gallery" was a quirky, offbeat 30-minute TV show that aired on KUBD-TV Channel 59 during its independent or early infomercial-heavy years. The show blended comedy, music, and surreal oddities, with segments like a cat using a telephone, a spy caper, and even car stunts — all wrapped in a kind of late-night, public-access energy that made it feel like a Denver underground gem.
The tone was irreverent and unpredictable, leaning into the kind of DIY absurdism that thrived on UHF channels in the late '80s and early '90s. Think Wayne’s World meets Tim and Eric with a dash of local flavor.
In June, the first three episodes were remastered and have now been published again after 30 years off the air. You can find them on our YouTube channel. Episode 4 is coming next.
And then?
Well, we're glad to announce that after a 30-year hiatus, Episode 5 is in production right now. The new episodes are produced as JDSMG21. The 21 indicates that these episodes are produced in the 21st Century, underscoring the fact that the little TV show offering "comedy, music, and things you don't see every day," has now spanned into a new century.
The short film "Gallery Drive" uses a test recording of the updated JDSMG21 theme song, recorded in May 2025. Stay tuned. The Meat Gallery is coming back onto the air with familiar faces and modern digital filmmaking techniques.
You can find it all on the ZenDog Films YouTube Channel here or by clicking any of the slates above.
As for Life. And Scoreboards, nothing else has changed. We will resume our normal publishing schedule from our new offices beginning on Monday morning with an article about music inside the arena.
As always, thanks for your support, and be sure to tell everyone you know about Life. And Scoreboards and ZenDog Films.
Sincerely, JD
